I remember it like yesterday when I was sitting in the hospital crib with Maryam, anxiously waiting for the nurse to take her to the OR. After dozens of phone calls, advice, and research, the difficult decision for hand surgery was made. We hoped that correcting her right hand would help its dexterity and function. Within hours, the surgery was complete and now a long recovery awaited. Months past, and Occupational Therapy fervently worked on helping Maryam gain more coordination of the right hand with the changes made. We had high aspirations of Maryam.
Today, I admiringly watched Maryam color on a piece of paper with that right hand. Only if she knew she wasn’t just coloring paper, but graciously coloring my every world with every stroke, and affirming to me with every try that it was all worthwhile. We trusted, she believed, and she achieved. I’m so thankful that God has blessed us with those who help push Maryam to her core to achieve what may have one day seemed impossible.
Maryam, my love, keep coloring our world.
